Park Day
Each
Wednesday our 1st-5th grade students enjoy lunch, recess, and physical
education at Balboa Park. A large grassy, tree-lined area of the park
is a short six-block walk from the school. The students eat lunch in
this picnic setting followed by a time of recess. Touch football, soccer,
tag, collecting leaves, jumping rope, and throwing balls are some of
the activities the students choose during their free time. Each class
also has a structured physical education time, and this larger space
allows teachers to plan a wide variety of lessons.
Other Information
- All students bring or order a lunch.
- Children may bring a towel or blanket to sit on, if
desired.
- Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle or
additional drinks.
- Each teacher brings equipment for recess and physical
education.
- A first aid kit, emergency forms, and cellular phones
are always present.
- Parents are welcome to join us.
Kindergarten
children walk to the park each Friday afternoon for physical education.
Teachers, support staff, and parents accompany the children every week.
Children have the opportunity to work on gross motor skills such as
running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing, catching, and kicking
during a variety of physical education games and activities.
Although Middle School students do not go to the park each week they occasionally use the park for physical education and lunch. The majority of the middle school physical education units are taught at the Kroc Center, but a few units, as well as special events such as the Mile Runs, utilize the park.
